May Day

May Day fell on a perfect day of the week this year...Saturday!  The Families With Purpose group that we are a part of usually plans their activities for Saturdays since that seems to be a best day for people to get together.  The May activity was obviously May Day baskets.  We gathered at a local park where the kids made cards for Olathe Police Officers & Firemen.
They then filled adorable May Day baskets with goodies & attached the card.
It was then time to deliver them.  We stopped at the firestation first where we were able to catch the Firemen "home".  The kids were so excited to give them the goody baskets & the Firemen entertained the kids with a full fledged tour of the station complete with sitting in 3 different fire trucks.  It was very interesting to ask the Firemen various questions about their job.
The next stop was the police station.  We were given a tour of the brand new, state-of-the-art police station that is being completed by one of the police officers.  It is very nice & once again everyone was very intrigued.  Two of the dads in our group are police officers for Overland Park so it was fun to listen to them talk about how nice everything was.
Aubrey thought it was so funny to get "handcuffed"...let's hope & pray that this is the only time this happens.  Brian is so very intrigued by these types of service jobs & has been looking for a place where he can do a ride-a-long sometime.  Well, he found it!  He was a little hesitant to ask the police officer if their station provided this service so one of our good friends did for him.  When the officer answered yes, Brian's eyes lit up!
We had a great time & were so excited to thank our Firemen & Police Officers with a simple gift.
