"Milk Really Does Come From Cows!"

This morning we visited one of our favorite places--Deanna Rose. I know you have heard us mention this place before. Abigail and I went a couple weeks ago while Aubrey was in school and Aubrey was very bummed that she wasn't able to go. Since this morning's weather was gorgeous and Aubrey did not have school we headed out to the farm! We thought we were in for a regular visit but to our surprise there was an added feature--a cow milking demonstration. This spring I explained to Aubrey that the milk we drink comes from cows. She would nod and look at me like I was crazy.
Well today Aubrey was amazed. She sat very intently and listened to everything the speaker had to say. We learned that a cow is not actually a cow until they have given birth. As she watched the milk collect in the large container and listened to the speaker explain how it is treated and prepared for us to drink she looked up at me with big eyes and said, "Mom, you were right milk really does come from cows".
Pippi eats her breakfast while they milk her.
They drain the collected milk into a milk jug and use it to make butter in an afternoon demonstration--we will have to be sure and go for that sometime!
Aubrey loved pointing out everything to Abigail.
This picture has nothing to do with milking cows but I had to share it because Abigail is actually feeding the goats. She did not seem to be afraid at all. She let them lick her fingers, take the treats and then she would wrinkle her nose with a smile.

Sometimes I forget how fascinating it really is since I could see that every day growing up on a dairy farm. Glad that the girls had fun!
