Preschool Field Trip

This morning Aubrey met all of her preschool friends for a field trip to Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. This is an amazing place that we frequented last summer but this morning was our first time to go this year. The Farmstead is a 12-acre park. It has farm animals, birds of prey, vegetable and flower gardens, a one-room country schoolhouse, a dairy barn, an old time fishing pond, horse drawn wagon rides and pony rides. They have just about any animal found on the farm - cows, goats, sheep, ponies, miniature horses, donkeys, chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks. They also have bison, longhorn steer, prairie dogs, bobcats and birds of prey. The entire farm is run by many volunteers and is supported by donations from visitors, others in the community and the City of Overland Park.
Aubrey had such a great time feeding the fish, goats & sheep with pet food she bought from vending maching type things. However, her favorite feeding experience was feeding the baby goats their mild bottles. She had to get a little stern with some
of the baby goats because
they were fighting over the bottle and when they weren't sucking on the bottle they were eating her shirt. She handled it very well but almost went into panic mode. Other highlights of the day were riding the pony, riding toy tractors, "milking" a fiberglass cow, playing on the playground, snack time, and spending time with her teacher, Mrs. Saint and her friends. In fact she was very sad to leave. Once she understood that all of her friends were leaving as well we were able to make it out without tears. I guess we will be enjoying Deanna Rose quite a bit this summer. She calls it "The little zoo". We would love to have anyone join us sometime when they are around for a visit.
Aubrey did a great job feeding the goats their food. She had no fear! I am so glad I was prepared with some hand sanitizer!

Milking the fiberglass cow. She enjoyed learning where the milk she drinks comes from--I think!

Aubrey and Miya sit with their teacher, Mrs. Saint. They are feeding the fish in the old pond.

Aubrey, Miya & Micaela get ready for a good snack after such a fun morning.

I have heard great things about it, and your pics are so cute! Maybe we can all go while we're visiting in a few weeks! =)
