The First Of Many

Brian & I started our day off early as we met with Mrs. Fyffe, Aubrey's teacher, for our first parent/teacher conference. We were both excited to see how Aubrey was doing! We enjoyed discussing Aubrey & getting to know her teacher a little bit. Mrs. Fyffe was very complimentary of Aubrey. She shared with us that Aubrey is a sweet little girl that likes to help out. She is right on track with her letters, numbers, patterns, writing & reading. She did mention to us that Aubrey is a little bit shy when she is in a bigger group. She does not raise her hand to answer questions in front of the entire class. She does not feel that it is because Aubrey does not know the answer because there are times that Mrs. Fyffe asks Aubrey something in front of the class & she knows it without hesitation. This surprised me a little bit because I see the very comfortable and outgoing Aubrey. We are excited to watch as Aubrey continues to grow, develop, mature & change over the rest of the school year. Way to go Aubrey!!! We are so proud of you.
It was fun to meet with Mrs. Fyffe, not only to find out more about how Aubrey is adjusting to Kindergarten but also to get to know her a little more. All I have to say is...Aubrey is in great hands during her school hours & I am absolutely thrilled that she is her teacher! Mrs. Fyffe is excited to be teaching, she knows how to have fun & make things fun, she is full of fantastic ideas, she is very kind but also in control, and she is personable. She kept saying how glad she was to have Aubrey in her class & how much she enjoys her which brought a smile to my face. Mrs. Fyffe shared a poem with us that I would like to share with you as well:
You Are a Marvel
Each second we live is a new & unique moment of the universe,
a moment that will never be again.
And what do we teach our children?
We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France.
When will we also teach them what they are?
We should say to them:
Do you know what you are?
You are a marvel.
You are unique.
In all the years that have passed,
there has never been another child like you.
Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move.
You may become a Shakespeare,
a Michaelangelo,
a Beethoven.
You have the capacity for anything.
Yes, you are a marvel.
And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is,
like you, a marvel?
You must work--we must all work--to make the world
worthy of its children.
