Growing Up

This has been a big week for Miss Aubrey. We started the week after Spring Break with a parent-teacher conference at her preschool. It was fun to meet with her teacher and hear about all that she is working on and all that she has already learned. She commented on how Aubrey has a very sound knowledge base that will prepare her well for kindergarten next year. She is impressed with how much Aubrey has improved on her numbers and letters since the fall. In addition, she said that she will more than likely start reading soon since she is able to give the sounds of the majority of the letters of the alphabet. So, Brian and I need to get busy helping her with that more!

At the beginning of the year, Aubrey was having some trouble sharing a certain baby at school with one of her classmates who also preferred this baby. Throughout the year their teacher has been working on this with them. She has been helping them see the positives of sharing and helping them understand how God would handle certain situations. It must be working because they seem to be getting along much better now. Aubrey's teacher explained to us that Aubrey has enough of a strong will to stand up for her beliefs but also a warm, giving and caring side that provides a nice balance. We are hoping this will stay with her, especially as she enters those teen years with peer pressure and such...that will come faster than we know it. We are so proud of her!

Today Aubrey got a taste of Kindergarten. We took her to the elementary school that she will be attending for Kindergarten Round-up...Wow, I can't believe it! She was so excited and very eager to "learn" as she kept saying. When we entered the classroom she was thrilled to see three teachers with familiar faces (two of which are friends of ours and the other was her dance teacher). While Mommy and Daddy filled out a lot of paperwork, Aubrey was in the other room doing various "projects" for the teachers. She was asked to write her name, draw a picture of herself under the sun, identify her letters, play a game with numbers, and play in the home living center. She had a fabulous time and told us she was not ready to go home when we were through. That first day of Kindergarten is going to be tough on me but I know that she is so excited and that will keep me smiling as she heads of to school!
