A Dream Come True

Almost every guy has their favorite college football team, right? Brian and his Dad, John, happen to have the same favorite and that is USC (Univeristy of Southern California). You may be wondering how a Kansas boy becomes interested in a team that is in California. Well, both of Brian's parents are originally from California and his Dad grew up in a suburb of L.A. The Univeristy of California is located in the heart of L.A. So, Brian followed in his Dad's footsteps when it came to being a USC fan. They have always thought it would be so much fun to attend a home game together--well that became a reality last weekend.

On Saturday Brian and his Dad met up with cousins, John & Chris, for a day of fun at USC. The day started early at 7:30am so they could arrive for the tailgating celebrations that occur throughout the campus on game days.

During the pre-game festivities Tommy Trojan leads the marching band and cheerleaders through the campus to get the crowd ready for the game.

The USC Trojans play their games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which was the home of the 1932 Summer Olympics. The olympic torch located at the entrance is still lit at the beginning of the fourth quarter of home football games.
Traveler, the USC mascot, is a white horse that is ridden by Tommy Trojan at every home game. Whenever USC scores the band plays Conquest and Traveler gallops around the stadium.
Brian, his Dad, John & Chris enjoyed a great game between USC and Arizona State Univeristy. The USC Trojans won the game 28-0. The weather was beautiful, the fans were excited and the dream of seeing the USC trojans first hand in the coliseum became a reality.
Brian and his Dad had the opportunity to spend time with both of Brian's aunts, Karen and Arlene during the California visit. Karen graciously hosted them, prepared them fabulous meals and took care of every small detail to make their trip fantastic. All of them are big L.A. Dodgers fans and since they were playing in the National League Championship last weekend they gathered to watch those games together.
Thanks to all of the California family for making their weekend so enjoyable and thanks to Dad Sommer for helping make Brian's dream come true.
